debian-xcontrol software package provides Extended syntax for debian/control files, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install debian-xcontrol
debian-xcontrol is installed in your system.
Make ensure the debian-xcontrol package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep debian-xcontrol *
You will get with debian-xcontrol package name, version, architecture and description in a table
